Our ethos is 'Learning Through Play' where play is planned to follow the interests of each individual child. We provide safe and stimulating activities both adult led and child initiated.

Activities are planned on a weekly basis taking into account the current interests of the children.

We offer Music and dance, have a Computer Area and a range of ICT equipment. We arrange outings and trips within the local area and have regular visits from local community members e.g. Community Police Officer and the Fire Brigade.

During free play time children have access to the snack bar with a member of staff where they can have a drink of milk or water and a healthy snack, including fruit, vegetable sticks and various breads. This encourages independence and reinforces good table manners. It also helps to develop good communication skills. Support will be given to younger and less able children.

During the summer term we hold a traditional Sports Day. Parents are encouraged to attend and join in! In December the children take part in Christmas Sing-a-long, all parents/carers and families are invited. At each of these events we fund raise by providing refreshments and a tombola.

Our pre-school provides a curriculum for the children, which offers a wide range of activities appropriate for differing ages and stages of development. We offer free flow play both inside and outside. Our outdoor play area enables children to learn and explore the world around them by caring for their environment and planting and growing flowers and vegetables.

The provision for children's development and learning is guided by The Early Years Foundation Stage and our provision reflects the four key themes:

  • A Unique Child
  • Positive Relationships
  • Enabling Environments
  • Learning and Development

The Areas of Learning and Development

Prime Areas:

  • Personal Social and Emotional Development
  • Physical Development
  • Communication and Language

Specific Areas:

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

Play underpins young children's learning and development. Our setting uses the Development Matters in the Early Years Foundation Stage to plan and provide a range of play activities which enable children to make progress in all of the areas of learning and development. Some activities children decide how they will use the resources provided and others are specifically led by an adult following the children's interests and development levels to consolidate and extend their learning. Our experienced staff know when and how to maximise children's learning during all activities.
