Drop Off and Collection Procedures

Drop off and Collection procedures

  • Only Year 5 and 6 pupils will be allowed to walk to school/home from school without adult supervision.
  • All people collecting pupils must be over 16 years of age
  • If someone different is collecting your child then please provide them with a password and also let the school know the password.
  • Year 5 and 6 pupils will not be allowed to drop off/collect younger siblings from Year R-Year 4.
  • Year R to Year 4 pupils MUST be supervised at drop off until the door is opened at 8.35am. Please do not drop them and leave before this time as they would be unsupervised and could potentially leave the school site. This is worrying from a safeguarding situation.
  • Please do not drop Year R-Year 4 children off at the gate between 8.35am-8.55am and then leave. You must accompany your children to their classroom doors unless we have agreed a different arrangement with you.
  • If you arrive after this., please come to the school office with your child as they will need to be signed in by their parent. This applies to all pupils.
  • If children play on the equipment in the morning before school, parents/other adults dropping off, MUST supervise. At the end of the day, the equipment should not be used and families are encouraged to leave the school grounds promptly.

Behaviour Policy

Behaviour Policy information

Our Behaviour policy gives more opportunities for children to be recognised for always making good choices, aiming high and working hard.  We have a clear set of sanctions where we expect children to take responsibility for their own behaviour; giving them time to think about how to put things right if they have gone wrong.

The powerpoint explains the key aspects of the policy.  The full policy can be found either in statutory information or under the Key Information tab in the policies section.

If your child has to take some time out in another room because they have made some poor choices, you will get a letter home in order that you can discuss it with your child.  When home and school work closely, it ensures better outcomes and positive relationships.

This is the next stage on our journey to ensure all of our children achieve well and enjoy their learning.  Positive attitudes to learning will build resilience, help them deal with challenge and feel safe to take risks in their learning.

Catering and Free School Meals

Free School Meals at Sherard

Claiming for Free School Meals

If you think your child may qualify for Free School Meals, please read the following information so that you can begin to start the claim process.

Why should I claim for Free School Meals?

It is really important that, if you feel you may be entitled to claim for Free School Meals, that you do so. This is because there is additional government funding awarded to the school called the Pupil Premium. This funding is awarded to schools according to the number of children in receipt of Free School Meals. This means that claiming for Free School Meals could also help your child receive other benefits at school. Therefore, if you do feel you are entitled to claim, it is very much in your interest, your child's interest and the school’s interest. You can even claim and then not take the school hot dinner if your child does not like it; or, your child can just have the school dinners on the days they wish to.

What are the eligibility criteria to claim for Free School Meals?

If your child is under 19 and in full-time education, you may be able to get free school meals for them if you get one of these benefits:

  • Income Based Job Seekers Allowance
  • Income Support (IS)
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
  • Guaranteed Element of State Pension Credit
  • Support under part 6 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 if you’re an asylum seeker
  • Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
  • Children who receive Income Support (IS) or Income Based Jobseekers Allowance in their own right can also get free school meals.

How do I claim for Free School Meals?

To make a claim for Free School Meals, you can apply online via the Leicestershire County Council website:

https://www.leicestershire.gov.uk/education-and-children/social-care-and-supporting-families/free-school-meals

Do I have to apply every year?

You only need to apply for free school meals once, your eligibility will then be checked on a 4 weekly basis via the central benefit records database. If, after this check of eligibility, it is found that you are no longer eligible, the School Food Support Service will write to you requesting to see proof of the benefits you are receiving.

You will need to apply for subsequent children beginning school.
