At Sherard we are hugely proud of our Seahorses Provision, a multi-sensory nurturing play based curriculum and environment for students with additional needs and specific learning difficulties. The Seahorses specialises in cognition and learning difficulties and communication and interaction difficulties including: autism and speech and Language difficulties, we also support children with down syndrome.
The Seahorses offers good and outstanding progress for pupils with special needs. Inclusion opportunities for children within the mainstream school environment. High staff to child ratio with specialist staff who are skilled in special educational needs and disabilities. A fun multi-sensory play based curriculum which responds to the individual needs and interests of each child. Learning focuses on developing and teaching life skills. Personalised learning plans are created for every child. Short, highly differentiated and individualised programmes of learning.
Our Seahorses Pink Provision supports children based in Foundation Stage/KS1. Our Purple and Plum Provision supports children based in KS1 and KS2. Children are grouped according to abilities and needs.
All classes have a large outdoor learning area which is used throughout the academic year. The Den (sensory room) and the Calm Room (soft play) are accessed by both classes and also by children within the mainstream environment. Classrooms have sand, water, construction, small play and imaginative play areas. All classrooms have interactive whiteboards installed.
